Before Tracy Pitlanish met Pat O’Connor, she felt as if she were drowning.
The ad she saw for Financial Cleansing, Pat’s financial coaching business, was literally a lifeline.
“At that time in my life, I felt as if I was drowning. I couldn’t breathe. I wasn’t getting anywhere. I had hit rock bottom,” she said.
What drew her attention to the ad was the word “cleansing.” In overcoming previous obstacles in her life including cancer Pitlanish had become familiar with the benefits of cleansing for the body and for the soul. However, in October of 2002, none of what she already knew was working for her.
“I was intelligent. I knew what to do. I had read financial books,” Pitlanish said. But even with all of her knowledge a bachelor’s degree, successful completion of massage school she says she was “out of control.”
“When I saw Pat’s ad, I thought maybe I could get control of my money and everything else would follow.”
Getting control for Pitlanish meant dealing with $30,000 in debt and changing her spending behavior.
“I was trying to find happiness by spending my way to it. I was shopping because after the cancer I didn’t feel as if my body looked right. I was buying gifts. I thought if I can’t make myself happy, I can make other people happy.”
Pitlanish was paying her bills late and accumulating late fees. She was using credit cards to pay other bills.
“I was juggling it all. I had no discipline. I had lost respect for myself.”
In the midst of all of that, why did Financial Cleansing make a difference?
Pitlanish believes it is because Pat’s coaching style “broke everything down into little tiny baby steps. There was nothing overwhelming.”
Clutter came first in the Financial Cleansing curriculum and Pitlanish flourished using Pat’s method for gaining freedom from clutter.
“In my journal, I wrote about clutter. What healed me was clearing out space and not hanging on to possessions I didn’t want or need,” Pitlanish said.
Her journaling led her to other realizations, spiritual realizations.
“I realized that I can prosper, that God wants us to prosper,” she said. She also learned from Pat about focusing on her intention. “If something is your intention, you can manifest it,” she said. “The universe wants you to prosper.”
Less than two years later, Pitlanish has reduced her debt almost in half and has stopped creating new debt.
Besides reducing her debt by $12,000, Pitlanish said her 401K has grown by $24,000. For the cost of a $1,200 course, she is financially ahead by at least $36,000, because, as she points out, who knows how much more debt she might have accumulated if she had continued to spend like she was when she enrolled in the Financial Cleansing course.
“All I know is that something inside me told me to take this course, and now I couldn’t put a price on the value of Pat’s program.”
Today Pitlanish has an entirely different world view.
“ I would have to say that the way I look at money, work and life has been transformed. It became clear that I am on my spiritual path. I had to get out of the way and view my work differently. I began to see my clients as God’s people. I work differently today than I did before I met Pat.”
